Planning Your Shed

A Guide to SEQ Planning Scheme Requirements

A shed is defined as a 10a structure, which covers all non-habitable buildings including sheds, carports and private garages. You can’t just go ahead and build a class 10a structure — you need to get approval from the relevant council and the build needs to meet any regulations laid out in the council’s planning scheme. That means a fair bit of planning goes into building a shed. The good news: Stockman Sheds takes care of everything for you, including council approvals and ensuring your structure is built in line with all the building codes and standards.

When planning your shed, it’s always useful to understand the regulations around where and how it can be built. We’ve put together these factsheets for the South East Queensland councils we build in most often, plus the two state-wide references — the Queensland Development Code and Fire Separation rules — that apply across all of them.

Anybody can customise their shed with Stockman. From farmers needing somewhere to store their machinery to outdoor lovers needing storage room for camping gear, trailers, bikes and caravans — if you own it, we can build a shed to store it.
