Planning Your Shed

A Guide to SEQ Planning Scheme Requirements

A shed is defined as a 10a structure, which covers all non-habitable buildings including sheds, carports and private garages. You can’t just go ahead and build a class 10a structure, you need to get approval from the relevant council and it needs to meet any regulations laid out in the council’s planning scheme. This means a fair bit of planning goes into building a shed. the good news is, Stockman Sheds takes care of everything for you, including council approvals and ensuring your structure is built in alignment with all the building codes and standards.

When planning your shed, it’s always useful to understand the regulations around where and how it can be built. We’ve put together these handy factsheets for you, designed to give you a quick overview of the planning schemes of a few councils out there, as well as info on the Queensland Development Code and Fire Separation rules.
